Alexis Lamb is a percussionist and prolific composer with a fascination for exploration of the global percussive medium. At Northern Illinois University, she has been working with Dr. Gregory Beyer as Co-Director of Arcomusical, a resource for the Afro-Brazilian berimbau and related African musical bows. With Beyer, she has undertaken a multi-year compositional project creating a series of new works for the berimbau, ranging from solos to sextets. Lamb's research on the history and traditional use of the berimbau in Brazil earned her a first place prize at NIU's Undergraduate Research and Artistry Day in 2013, along with a scholarship for the achievement. Lamb has also received the Undergraduate Special Opportunities in Artistry and Research (USOAR) Grant and the Honors Enhance Your Education (EYE) Grant for her work with the berimbau. Lamb and Beyer will record this song cycle, now titled MeiaMeia, in Summer 2015 and will release the album through Innova Recordings in late 2015.
